This is a loaded topic. People from all over the country are voicing their anger over pay and display machines. I understand that half the time they don’t work and the it’s always a hike to find one. Call me nostalgic but I like the convenience and comfort of having a good ol meter in front of them. Don’t get me wrong, we make covers for parking pay stations…. but I can’t help thinking that with all the different companies out there going in and out of business replacement parts become a huge issue.

I think this is a brilliant idea. Ilove multi-use/multi-purpose strategies when it comes to parking and transportation issues. This is really neat and very close in sentiment to what the Japanese are doing with roof top organic gardening in some of there parking facilities. I think this is the type of green technology that we all need to do. Here at Canvaswork we’ve tried to lessen our carbon footprint and find ways of helping the environment.

As parking supervisor I was always reluctant to boot or tow a car. The liabilities are a nightmare. We had the luxury of using the police department to look up the owner as well as a enough space to be able to carry a car for a while. But other’s aren’t so fortuante and given the pressure to turn space over operators have to tow. Interesting video. I’d just like to point out that good signing is really important and in a lot of situations you have to explicitly sign that you are going to tow a vehicle if it doesn’t belong or has overstayed it’s welcome.

One of our product arms here at Canvaswork are seed pallet covers. A pallet of corn seed is a lot of money and if it’s damaged by rain while in transit to the field, a dealer rep or a famer is out a lot of money. Corn seed is as important to us because of the covers we make. But I’m also torn. I hate to see food sources being usurped by fuel demand. I think balance is the key. I just got done reading

Biofuels: a blessing or a curse? http://psdblog.worldbank.org/psdblog/2007/07/biofuels-a-bles.html#trackback

on I believe that there are better long term sources of fuel and of food. Peas, for instance, grow faster and return nitrogen to the ground. They don’t have to be dried and can be used for fuel and food. I’d like to see more of this crop planted. But again, corn has a definate place in both the fuel and the food mix.

I’d like to add to their list of things to do and recommend that church signs can be managed. Disablity covers can be placed on signs and some cases parking meter hoods will work to help reserve space for the elderly or for V.I.Ps. Some of our best customers are churches so there definately a need there.

I’d like to point out at the Minneapolis and Cleveland had extensive street car systems. I bring these cities up an an example because they are the two I’m most familiar with. In Mpls and St. Paul (the twin cities are full of lakes) there were even boat trollies/fairies incorporated into the system. I’ve done a few projects involving signage for water taxis but I’m wondering it there are even more opportunities to revive past transit strategies and make them viable models for the here and now.
