I’ve been wanting to make some traditional Linen Tolstovka shirt with flower embroidery.  It’s helpful when kicking around the net to find search terms/definitions so you know what you’re looking for.

I’ve got so many fabric pieces too.  It’s impossible to throw anything out.  And as disorganized as fabric remnants what scares me is that I can remember each piece when it comes time for a crafting project!

I learned how to sew in the Air Force.  I parachute rigger and sewer.  But my first experice with a sewing machine was at my grandmothers.  I’ve made it a point to make some of my boy’s clothes.  I feel conected to her and to my sons by doing it. Oddly enough, that skill is now my full time job!

One of my favorite poets and essayist is Robert Bly.  And he bemoans the fact that men don’t have the opportunity to show their children what they do.  They go off into the world and come back at the end of the day tired.  My wife and I are lucky out here in rural Minnesota.  We live and work on the yard and our children watch us sew and design.  I will be able to teach my sons as they grow.

I’ve got two beautiful little boys who like to help me with projects.  A lot of what we do is some basic rigging and sewing for hunting binds and clothing.  I’ve altered some of their camo and have tried to figure out projects that we can do together that involve sewing. 

I think I can cut out fabric leaves and we can figure out how to attatch them to our hunting hats and mesh using the same priciples.
